multiple-representationsThis lesson is about
different representations of algebraic relationships, namely equations, graphs, tables and words. This activity should be given to the class as a formative assessment activity: it is designed to provide the teacher with information about the learners’ current levels of understanding.

After a short introduction, during which the teacher models how to match different representations of the same relationship, the learner work in pairs or small groups. They are given an A3 poster with 5 different sets of small cards (graph cards, table cards, rule cards, equation cards and name cards). They are asked to match the cards representing the same relationship and to stick them on the poster. After the activity the teacher holds a class discussion aiming to go over the answers and elicit something about the students’ understanding.

Note: This activity was designed as a formative assessment activity, in order to to provide the teacher with information about the learners’ current levels of understanding.
